Destination weddings and elopements have become very popular in recent years. With many couples catching the travel bug (oh yes, I have it too!), the idea of spending not only your wedding day, but your entire wedding weekend with your favorite people, and the love of unique and amazing wedding photography, most couples at least consider a destination wedding when planning their big day. And… I think it’s a great idea! Here’s why-

1. The mountains that surround us here in Asheville and Western North Carolina are beautiful, full of adventure, and ready for any couple to say “I do!”

Do you love the mountains and want to be surrounded by them for your wedding? Consider a mountain top ceremony at Craggy Gardens or Black Balsam with a reception at a local venue. Or, host your entire event at a venue with beautiful mountain views like Hawkesdene or Point Lookout Vineyards.

2. There is a diverse wedding venue pool to choose the perfect venue for you!

From elegant castles to mountain tops and downtown hotels to rustic barns, there is a huge variety of wedding venues in the area. A few of my favorites are Biltmore, Hawkesdene, The Foundry Hotel Asheville, and Lake Eden Events. Each boast a unique setting and are incredibly beautiful.

3. Asheville is centrally located in the Southeast and is easy to get to.

With Asheville being a weekend drive from most cities in the south and mid-atlantic, and many airports close by, it’s a perfect destination for friends and family traveling in.

4. Asheville wedding vendors are some of the best in the nation.

Yes! With the diverse venues, mountain tops, and array of couples, we local vendors have lots of experience with all different styles of weddings. Plus, one of the best things about a destination wedding in Asheville is that our local vendors are not only amazing at their craft, but also have lots of experience working with couples from out of town. We know how to help couples navigate the planning process from afar and lend a hand whenever we can.

5. Your guests will experience a weekend that they will love and never forget!

Along with the natural beauty of the area, Asheville has so much to offer! With award winning craft breweries, Biltmore Estate, thousands of miles of hiking trails, beautiful drives, and amazingly delicious restaurants, your guests will have the time of their lives! Of course their priority will be celebrating you as a couple, but they will enjoy the rest of their weekend, too!

I understand that as a couple there is a bit of unknown that comes along with planning a destination wedding. Typically a couple has only visited the venue space once, has never met their vendors including their officiant, and me, their photographer. The couple truly puts their wedding day fate in the hands of others that they have never met, and there is something to be said about that. The trust, the honesty, and the love that is present for this type of wedding is incredible. As a vendor I am here to serve couples, and I do it to the best of my ability every single time. I feel honored to be a part of a couples big day and feel that it is my duty to guide them and help in any way I can. From helping them build a timeline for their venue that I am more familiar with, to connecting them with amazing local vendors that I love and trust, I offer my help. Planning any wedding is overwhelming, and planning it from hours away and over the phone can even harder. But… it’s totally worth it!
