Asheville Photographer | Best of 2020 Portraits

This past year has been full of twists and turns, scheduling plans to quickly cancel them, waiting patiently to see what happens in our world, and lots of virtual connections. Thankfully throughout all of this, the photography industry could continue to work outdoors and capture couples’ and families beautiful moments, even if it all looked a bit more unique this year. 

I am beyond grateful for the incredible year that I had with my business as I still got to see my customers and meet new couples, even if from a distance. I was able to go to many breathtaking places to capture their love and connections right here around Asheville, NC. We all know the scenery is gorgeous here, and in most cases the typical crowds were not present, which provided me with an even sweeter experience! 

One thing that helped keep me going through this challenging year of 2020 was simply, LOVE. Even though our jobs, school, and plans may have been put on hold, our lives were not. Our families still needed us, our kids still grew, and our babies were born as beautiful as ever. Finding love and fun in everyday living is always important, but in 2020 it was even more important. 

It was a ton of fun to see my customers playing as a family in their front yards while I stood in the street and captured all of their amazing moments. Missing their annual photos wasn’t ideal, so we found a way to make their family photography sessions happen. Having a baby during a pandemic is something that I hope no one has to do again, but capturing moments with their newborn baby is still a priority for families. Making adjustments and finding ways to photograph a baby’s newness and snuggles with family is as important as ever.

Love was not cancelled, and is still not cancelled, especially for couples in love. With a record number of engagement proposals at Biltmore Estate happening in front of my lens this year, I was able to witness and photograph countless amazing moments that ended in “YES!” All of the sweet words and excited couples helped fill my schedule with pure JOY.

In choosing to see the love in every photo session, I saw more love in my life, too. From sharing my cabinet staples with my local friends and neighbors, to FaceTime meals with my friends and family who live a thousand miles away, there were certainly moments that made me take a step back and enjoy the little things. I truly hope those little things stick with me and stay a part of my life for a long time.
