A few months ago I wrote a blog post about my favorite things to do in Asheville, NC, but I have to tell you, it was missing one thing. The reason it was missing one thing is because there simply wasn’t enough room in the article to include what I’m about to share with you. Yes, it’s that big, and it’s that much information, because it’s a full day activity!

You know that I love being out on the trails either hiking or biking, but sometimes, a nice day of driving to see the sights and views that our gorgeous mountains offer is just as fun! For an epic driving day, which is perfect for a cool or windy day while you’re visiting the Asheville, NC area, I recommend a day that includes some of these things…

1) Drive the Blue Ridge Parkway west from Asheville.

Take your time and stop along the way at a few of the many overlooks. They are picturesque and some are large enough to sit for a while and take it all in. If you’re feeling more active, you could even stop for a quick hike to the top of Mt. Pisgah or Frying Pan Fire Tower

2) Stop at the Pisgah Inn Country Store for a snack.

From cold drinks and ice cream bars, to sunscreen and souvenirs, this little country store is a perfect stopping point to pick up a little something you didn’t know you needed.

3) Drive route 276 into Brevard.

Brevard, the land of waterfalls. When people use this phrase, they’re not kidding! There are so many waterfalls in the Brevard, NC area that you don’t even have to walk more than 20 yards from your car to see a handful of them. Roadside waterfalls, there isn’t a better addition to a day of driving!

4) Stop and take in some waterfall views.

From the often raging Looking Glass Falls to the gentle flow of Moore Cove Falls, there is quite an array of waterfalls along and near this route. In addition to the two I just mentioned, I recommend stopping in to see Tom’s Spring Falls, Slick Rock Falls, and a few falls along the Davidson River Trail.

5) Have a delicious lunch in Brevard.

Brevard, NC boasts many delicious lunch options, including The Square Root, Mayberry’s, and Smoke on BBQ. It's also a perfect town to have lunch and walk the streets to check out all the fun shops.

6) Explore a couple of breweries on your drive back to Asheville.

Asheville may have been voted Beer City, but let’s be honest, breweries are popping up all around the area, and we love it! I recommend stopping at Burning Blush Brewery, Bold Rock Hard Cidery, and Sierra Nevada Brewing, which are all just off your route in the Mills River area.
