Proposals are one of my favorite things to photograph for the obvious reasons. They are exciting, it takes a bit of planning to pull off an engagement proposal, and it’s a surprise! I am a planner at heart (hello past career in project management!) and I LOVE being a part of a surprise, so it’s no wonder why I love capturing them.
When I am contacted to capture a proposal, I instantly think of all of the possibilities. Will the person proposing want to do so on the top of a mountain? Or maybe in front of a waterfall? Or maybe at our gorgeous attraction here in Asheville, NC, Biltmore Estate? There are so many amazing spots here in western North Carolina for one to profess their love to their partner and ask their partner to marry them. Truly, I cannot think of an unsuitable place that I have ever captured a proposal!
There are definitely more popular places that couples choose to propose, like Biltmore Estate or somewhere with mountain views. The majority of proposals I capture are at Biltmore Estate, because let’s be honest, it’s spectacular! With their gorgeous gardens, impressive mansion, incredible mountain views, and more, it’s magical! Out of the two dozen proposals that I captured this year, all were unique in their own way. For example, one person proposed in front of the Spring Garden Tunnel at Biltmore Estate and their partner responded with complete and utter shock! Another couple agreed on the weekend for the proposal, but the partner didn’t know when and where it would happen. However, that partner also brought a ring for a double proposal at Jump Off Rock! It was an incredible year!
One of my favorite things about meeting all of the couples is hearing their stories. The story of how they met, how long they’ve been together, and most interestingly, how they got their partner to an exact spot at an exact time in order for me to capture their incredible moment! I hear all kinds of details, like “You know how earlier this week you went with Ashley to get her nails done for that special dinner? I actually asked Ashley to make up a story to get you to the salon to get your nails done for these photos.” Or, “The day my car broke down after work, it didn’t actually break down. I went ring shopping with your sister.” Seriously, I LOVE this stuff! As I mentioned above, I LOVE being a part of a surprise, so I love hearing all of the details that go into making the surprise happen seamlessly! It’s so fun!
All of the proposals that I capture are beautiful, so this year I compiled my favorite moments of 2022 proposals, just to share with you!
